Hi, My name is Kim, I'm new to this website. When I discovered it I was very excied. I thought it would be good to be Was diagnosed with dermatomyositis after a muscle biopsy. My labs usually show up fairly good but I have all the signs and symptoms. The rash on the face, neck hands, elbows, knees and scalp. Muscle weakness tenderness and fatigue. Now for the past month I have been experiencing fever at night. From what I read thats normal, but my doctor tells me its not. Has anyone been haveing this happen to them. Here lately I have been getting every little thing everybody else has. Please share. Thank you so much.

Berly, I have all of the symptons of DM but the lab is inconclusive. Because of that the treatment isn't covered by my insurance, so I have to stay on the prednisone and plaquenell.(SP?). Its tough. Not sure if I have fever or not but I get the chills all night long. Some day's I have weakness in my legs and always have tenderness of my skin. The Dr's. keep handing me off one another. Sometimes I feel like maybe i am nuts. Does your throat bother you?

Hi Kim, I always used to run low grade fevers when I was flaring and first diagnosed 2 to 3 years ago. I will still get them occasionally when I have exerted myself and my skin will turn bright red again and hurts. But these issues are rare for me now. I have responded well to injectible methotrexate and prednisone. I still always deal with an achy body and joints, and fatigue (I can sleep a lot!). I don't know when or if that will ever go away. I have always thought from research that fevers are normal with dermatomyositis. Hope you get to feeling better!

Thank you so much for the imput. Yes my throat does bother me, especially in the mornings. The fevers drive me crazy. I also suffer with severe migraines and when I don't have a migraine I have a headache. Its beginning to get really tuff. Hang in there DM can be very tricky. I know I'm sure not the norm. Have a great day.

Does anyone have extreme sensitivity to the sun or heat? My hands are in horrible shape and now I have to wear gloves when I am driving. The throat bothers me most of the time now. Berly and Christy its nice to be able to relate to someone.

I definately cannot handle heat. My skin will turn bright red very quickly and I am so uncomfortable and hot. I even start to feel anxious sometimes.I try to stay out of the heat. It is so miserable. How do your hands bother you? I used to have the mechanics hands until I started the prednisone. The skin on my hands was broken and cracked all the time and they itched like crazy. I have never had headaches/migraines or the throat issues, so far.

Christy, My hands do the get rough bumps and my finger tips split. My hands ache and sometimes they feel ice cold and tingly. The rest of me so far is pretty good. The throat thing is there usually when I get tired. Its my indicater that I need to rest. Heat is horrible, no other words can describe it.

7777, I do still get the rough bumps on my knuckles (grottons papules). And sometimes the skin around my fingernails is so sensitive and hurts so bad to the touch, even just typing. I have noticed lately that I have had tingling in my fingers and hands sometimes, just within the last couple of months. So do you think that is a dermatomyositis thing? It doesn't happen all the time, but seems to come out nowhere when it does happen. People look at me really weird when I have gotten really hot because I am so oddly red. I have to fan myself a lot too. It's kind of become my trademark at work. I try to laugh at myself!

I think the tingling is a DM thing.
