I believe IVIG worked for me over the weekend

I thought I was having an attack Friday but it appeared to be an intestinal flu instead. I am currently on IVIG and am assuming that it saved me from having an attack. I had symptoms of vomitting, diarhea, dizziness, dry mouth. I kept trying to drink fluids but they immediately came back out again. We went into the doctor and I received fluids as a precautionary measure. I think the doctor was not sure I needed to be there. At the end I am not sure that was needed but was very worried that I would end up having an attack. But in the end I had no edema whatsoever and by 24 hours I was home and feeling better. Have others had these occasional 'bouts' with the flu while on IVIG? Did you receive fluids(saline and potassium) as cautionary hydration in this type of situation?

I'm glad to hear about your false alarm, and it confirms my own experience. Prior to going on IVIG nearly two-and-a-half years ago, I would catch everybody's colds, flu and stomach viruses and each one of them would precipitate a potentially deadly episode of SCLS. Ever since being blessed with IVIG, (a) I usually don't catch anybody's colds, flu or other ailments anymore -- which makes sense, because IVIG gives us extra immunities against all sorts of illnesses -- and (b) on the rare occasion that I've caught a cold, it has not triggered an episode of SCLS. And I know this not only because I feel otherwise normal, but because I have monitored my blood (with a HemoCue device) and have confirmed that my hemoglobin concentration readings remain normal.

I too, picked up an intestinal bug four months ago when my infant grandson visited and had diarhea for four days, lost four pounds but, like Arturo, used my HemoCue machine to test red blood cell concentrations and they remained normal. I was on IVIG for five months when that occured. I am guessing the same illness would have been a oneway ticket to the ICU if I hadn't been on IVIG. If you haven't resolved the headaches yet, have your doctors prescribe Prednesone to take the day befor, the day of, and the day after your infusion. That, plus a Benedryl at the time of infusions has worked for me.

On the subject of IVIG, I had my 4th lot 10 days ago and have been unwell since. A lot of ups and downs with swelling ( I am a chronic leaker). Has anyone else experienced this? I have had prior improvement with IVIG and this is a bit of a set back. I wondered whether it may be something to do with that particular batch of IVIG or the fact that I appear to have been fighting a virus that my husband has had- sore throat etc that has not eventuated so far into the more severe form he had? Any input would be appreciated Thanks Sarah PS I had my bloods done again yesterday but no results yet.
