Rochester, Mayo and Dr. Greipp

I am new to this forum, new to the diagnosis. I am not, however, new to the symptoms. I have just started reading some of the posts here and it is like reading about the last ten years of my life. I am overwhelmed. I've just recently returned from Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota, the second of two visits - one in April - sort of a start from scratch approach that quickly led to a May appointment with Dr. Greipp. (Thank you to Dr. Patel in Pulmonary, who not only quickly recognized the potential that we may be looking at a form of SCLS, but treated me with such a sincere, gentle kindness. A very quietly dignified man, rare to my extensive experience with doctors over the past ten years.) Thank you to Dr. Greipp, a dedicated genius if ever there were. Void of any discernible pretense or ego that would be surely expected from someone of his professional stature. He spoke to me, listened to me - like I had a working brain in spite of being "ill" (new ). I listened as he mapped out a plan for a possible recovery of sorts for me. Thank you to Mayo Clinic staff - every single employee, no matter their role, must surely be the creme d' la creme of their profession. And the city of Rochester itself, the people - Thank you. A lovely city, so gracious to the many people who go there in need of so much. So very worthy a visit by even the healthiest traveler. Part museum, part charming small town with big city culture. And I am grateful to be able to read about others like me. There have been times I thought I was flat out crazy - gone insane as a result of incredible levels of frustration. Thanks for sharing your stories and your insights. Carole Thorn Gulf Breeze, Florida

Thank you for your post, Carole, and welcome to this site. I'm glad you made an investment in yourself and went to the Mayo Clinic -- not just once but twice. I haven't met Dr. Patel, but your description of Dr. Greipp is very accurate. I'm dreading the day he decides to retire.
