Has anyone had any sugerical procedures while not having an attack? Were there any special precautions? It was recommended my son have ear tubes, tonsils and adnoids removed. His Dr. at our local hospital is wonder the risk vs reward benefit and whether performing the procedure will introduce enough inflamation to possibly trigger an attack? Any thoughts would be helpful.

My husband Nolan has had some surgeries and has not had any problems. Wendy

I've had many surgeries between episodes, under full and partial anesthesia, and there's never been a problem. Still, knowing what I know now, I would advise your surgeon to check your son's hemoconcentration right before surgery with a HemoCue device (see "Portable, instantaneous test for hemoconcentration" under Disorder Details) -- just to make sure he is not having an episode right then and there.

I have also had many, many surgeries between episodes under full anesthetics. Some of these have been very long operations (up to eight hours in length) with no problems what so ever. Ruth Nolan :-)
