I am the father of a son who is diagnosed Dents disease. We live in Arnhem, The Netherlands. My son is born in 2005. The disease was discovered by accident because he was monitored for an overdoses(10 times) of penicillin what was a mistake of the pharmacist. His blood and urine samples showed abnormal levels and that was how it was discovered. He is now almost 5 and for his age a bit small. 101 cm. He is lively and happy and if you would not know a normal boy. As I am writing this my wife and son are in the hospital. Jan (my sons name) was'nt feeling well. We thought it just was having the flue or some minor illness. He vomited a bit and didn.t like to eat. He is on medication and the doctor said we had to contact the hospital if he had diarrhea or was not able to hold his drinks in. This was the case. I just spoke to my wife and they have to stay the night. Jan's calium was very low and they are trying to get that higher with some medication or infuse (is that english?) Just waiting for some more news. Hope to get some sleep and not worry to much. I think everything will turn out allright. Thanks for 'listening'. Keep in touch. (The time is 22.25)

Hi, Dijkstra, Dent Disease is so rare, and I don't know anyone who has it, except on this board. I hope all is well with your little one, and could you please tell us a little more about why he's in the hospital? I know that there are several different "types" of Dent's, so perhaps your type is different from ours? Does he usually have calcium in his pee? That might be why it was low? I'm just curious.

Sorry that it took a long time to react on your message Juuliedowns. I am not a frequent visitor. It turned out that he had the Rota-virus, a common virus but children really do feel very sick. Because of his diarrhea and vomiting he was possibly dehydrating. The doctor was afraid of a low calcium level which can cause hartrithym problems or even hart failure. So he was monitored and observed. and got some extra natrium and calcium. It took 4 days to get on a normal level. He enjoyed himself very much and was sorry the leave the hospital! We however could use some sleep. Now he is on medication (for insiders: 3 times a day a capsule of Natrium _(500 mgr natr.chloride, 100mg cellulosum microcryst ph102, 3mg magn stear)_ and 3 times a capsule of Kaliumcitraat _(0,5g kal citr, 0,07 gr cellulosum microcryst ph102, 0,002g magn stear)_ His urine is never clear but he is more lively than before and growing! I was wondering if their is a record of children with Dents who grow slower than average.
