I have been on prednisone now for almost a year started at 60mg and now down to 7mg. I am also taking Imuran 150mg. I have just recently started to notice that my hair is getting a litle curly. Has anyonw else had this happen. I have gone through the thinning and falling out but this is new.

I can confirm another case of prednisone induced super curly hair! A year on high dose prednisone and my hair has gone from thick and wavy, to flat and a little thinner to intensely curly. I look like I'm sporting a football helmet of brown curls. My hair dresser says she's seen it with another client on high dose steroids. She says it will also go back to it's former texture as the dose goes down. Has your hair one back to it's former self? I've dealt with tons of side effects from these meds - at least this one helps me keep my sense of humor!

Hi Daisy and Kelly! My 60mg of Prednisone for 18 months gave me cataracts in both eyes for which I had to have surgery. Now I don't need glasses anymore! That was the only "good" side effect of my Prednisone experience. I was on Cytoxan and lost all my hair. I had wavy hair and now it is growing back in very curly and soft, not wirey. It was light brown before and now it is almost black! Weird stuff.

Cataracts...yikes! Well, like you said, at least now you don't need glasses. Good to find the positive in this wild ride.

HI: I can also confirm the curly hair years before I used to pay alot for perms. This is the only possitive thing I can say about these drugs.I had cataracts in both eyes. My doctor told me if I wanted the implants in my eye's so I would not need glasses it would be $1000. 00 per eye. (I should have done it )ut I got the regular implants so I really need glasses now. Questions has anyone tried to lower your Imuran ? I read that there are alot problem staying on this stuff. I know is I miss a dose. I hurt all over and I'm very stiff and sore. I also have RA. My doctor tells me not to worry. That there is nothing to worry abot

Bizbeth - On your Imuran question... no, we haven't adjusted it downward as of yet. Been on 100 mg/day for the past 8 months. When I first went on it I had deep body aches in the large bones and sternum for weeks, plus really upset stomach and my hair began to thin. After about 6 weeks the bone aches stopped. And the hair loss leveled off (must have been fighting with the prednisone for control over the follicles as I still have a decent head of hair - just super curly now). Still have a slightly upset stomach at all times and have to make sure to take the Imuran with food or it's really upset. How did you notice you had cataracts? Just curious as I have one eye that's been a bit fuzzy lately. But it's also in the side of my face that I have a shingles nerve inflammation thing going on (due to low immune system). Kelly
