Hi all,

I wasn't going post but decided the information could be looked in to and many be help to others. I had a Leak that put in in the hospital for six days, the ED was very responsive. They started IVIG in the ED and added two bags of Albumin two the mix, it seem to make a difference. The first thought was the ICU but I stabilized quickly so regular room. I had a bad case of diverticulitis which resulted in needing IV antibiotics for several days. Ia m slowly getting my strength back. I am wondering if anyone else has been giving Albumin in the ED.

Ritz, so sorry to hear that you had an episode of SCLS requiring six days of hospitalization!

Yes, giving an SCLS patient albumin is standard procedure during their episodes because, as Lolaudesi wrote, "Hello, yes—my husband was given intravenous albumin during all his hospital stays. Hypoalbuminemia is one of the diagnostic criteria for the syndrome, but depending on the individual patient, it may or may not be necessary to replenish it."

As Dr. Druey wrote in his comprehensive swan song on SCLS, see https://www.nature.com/articles/s41572-024-00571-5, available from me upon request via email to aporzeca@american.edu, "Protein-containing or carbohydrate-containing solutions, such as albumin or hydroxyethyl starch, may preserve intravascular volume more effectively than crystalloid although it is unclear whether they improve survival."

The key is that they gave you IVIG, and the sooner it is administered, the more effective it is.

Sorry to hear about your episode too.    I recently have Covid back in March of this year and ended up with some SCLS symptoms and ended up in the hospital as well. The doctors took the Dr. Druey notes very seriously and I was given Albumin as well (as opposed to just a standard IV), it worked very quickly and I didn't end up with any of the fluid overload issues at all.
