I have had chronic low grade leaks and a few more major ones for 17 years and unfortunately could not tolerate IVIG after a 5 months trial I had a severe accident and subsequent infection about 18 months ago and was put on several courses of erythromycin and had liver damage as a result. My IGg levels went up hugely in my blood tests and remained elevated for almost 16 months during which time I experienced no leaks at all. The bloods returned to normal and the leaks have resumed again as before. I asked the specialist if there could be a link and he thought not. I have mentioned this here before and it could just be coincidence. The specialist thought it not likely but was unsure. Might anyone here have any idea?

Hello Windows, Essentially, it is difficult to say. There are so many factors you have mentioned which may be associated. As we don't know how or why IVIG works, we have a difficult starting point. What we DO know is that high levels of exogenous IVIG seem to keep the leakage at bay. There is no reason why high levels of ENDOGENOUS IVIG may not also keep it at bay. Alternative lines of examination could include the ff: The infection you sustained at the start may still be lingering. The liver damage may have caused some circulatory change. Erythromycin may have sarted a process of enzyme induction Etc etc etc. There are too many possibilities at this stage, but any way of increasng your IgG levels MAY help. John

Hmmm. Thanks John. How long is a piece of string is what you are saying. I guess nobody will know (at this stage, anyway). I will go with your first suggestion -endogenous may also work......It is as good as any and I don't want to replicate it!!
