Shooting headache with slightest strain

I think that lifting something too heavy started my latest issue. Two days ago (after lifting something heavy the afternoon before), I woke to find that even the slightest strain caused me to have a shooting pain in my head which abates after a few minutes leaving me with a dull headache. Coughing hard has always caused this sort of pain; but now, even clearing my throat, laughing, bearing down during a bowl movement, or rising from a sitting or reclining position without using my arms to help me rise, causes severe shooting pain in my head. Has this happened to someone else and if so, what did you do to ease the increased pain on straining?
