New Symptom -- Related to Dent?

My son Mason, now 15, developed a plugged saliva gland, which then got infected. The dentist referred him to an oral surgeon, saying that it's plugged by a stone and the stone will need to be removed. He also says it's likely to happen again. He thinks that "saliva stones" may be related to kidney stones. Has anyone heard of that before? Is someone with a kidney stone condition more likely to have "saliva stones"?

Possibly. There are some reports of association of the two, but not really strong. Nothing too impressive. Did anybody else with Dent have salivary stones? Lada

Just for the record, the stones are apparently calcium based, and are more common in males. Interesting, eh?

I spoke to my father who is an oral surgeon about this. His view was that he has never heard of salivary stones being specifically associated with patients with kidney disease, but said their could be a correlation. He stated the process of salviary stones forming is similiar to kidney stones and that people with high serum calcium are more suspetible.
