Interesting observation. What were the cr values before and after chemotherapy? It is possible that during the chemo he was not very active and his muscle mass decreased, lowering his creatinine and not changing his real kidney function. Since chemotherapy has significant side effects, especially when used over long time, it would likely not be a therapy to chose for chronic use (long term use). Which chemotherapy did he get? Lada

Lada -- I'll get the data all assembled and send it to you. It seemed to me that his kidney numbers dropped quite precipitously after one treatment, and then stayed down for a year after chemo ended. i just kind of wondered if one treatment per year might be worth whatever side effects, if it worked. Also, since they went down right from the first, I'm thinking the loss of muscle mass wasn't a factor. (he did lose quite a bit of weight, though, but that was later) I"ll get it all sent, pretty soon. juulie

Just read this now. Sorry to hear about your son, Juulie. It is a very interesting observation; definitely worth looking into! I would also wonder like Lada about false results due to lower muscle mass, as I am hopeful the other way round that my own son's creatinine is maybe higher because of his lean muscular build and not only because of his lower kidney function. But I don't know how low your son's numbers are. If they went back to almost normal with chemo, there might be something there although I don't understand how. And by the way, my flight is booked for June. Looking forward to meeting some of you in person!

Minu, that's really great! You are certainly not a procrastinator! Does anybody's nephrologist collect 24h urine for creatinine clearance? That would be a better estimation of function rather then cr value. Lada
